SBIOA Educational Trust, a pioneer for four decades, has shouldered the responsibility of providing a sustainable education by instilling the 21st century skills for students to be successful in the information age. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) aims at offering stress free, holistic education for students. To mould creative innovators, SBOA School (CBSE), Madurai came forth as a gentle sapling on 15th June, 2012. The School functions with a broader scope at Nagamalai from June 2016 with KG section functioning at SBI staff II colony, By-Pass road. The school is upgraded with the opening of class IX in 2018 – 2019 with the total student enrollment of 1273 and 61 Staff (52 Teaching Staff, 6 Non-teaching Staff and 3 Support Staff).

# CARS (Centre for Applied Research & Studies) was inaugurated in SBOA Schools, Madurai. A Workshop on CARS was organized by the SBOA Schools, Madurai. Dr. Arun Raaza, CEO of CARS and his team members kindled the interest of the students in Electronics.
# In collaboration with Bharathidasan University our school has taken an initiative in conducting SUITS programme on Web Designing for the students of Std. VIII.

Classroom Democracy (Shared Responsibility & Decision Making By Students)
Classroom Democracy is one of the unique features of the school. A democratic classroom is a miniature of a democratic society. We and our students are citizens of our classroom and school. So, students are treated with respect and are given the right to express their suggestions and views for the betterment of the school. Pupil Leaders Team is functioning efficiently with 10 sub committees under the vibrant leadership of the School Head Boy and the School Head Girl.
Editorial Board
The first issue of INK – Incredible Novelty in Kids is a great milestone in the history of the school. Editorial Board includes the Chief Editor and Editors for General News, Designing, Events, Voices, Tamil Articles, Jokes & Entertainment, Snippets, Interview, Drawing & Painting, Extracurricular Activities & Sports, Book Review belonging to std. VI and VII of our school. Each child is encouraged to share the treasure within. If a child lives with approval, the child learns to accept self. Individualism, Creativity, Innovation and Novelty in our kids are valued.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES OF THE SCHOOL
i) Field Trip
Field trips of the year include trips to Eco park, Biscuit factory, Botanical Garden, Nursery garden at Sholavanthan, Senthamil college Library, Agriculture University, Paper Plate Industry, Gandhi Museum.
ii) Gender Equality
The Debate club in our school wanted to trade the value of equal access to boys and girls during school education. The team discussed the social issues against each individual woman in this 21st era. The hot talk of the debators made the audience spellbound throughout the session and gave a vivid image that Gender equality is not only an essential human right, but an obligatory foundation for a peaceful, wealthy and sustainable world.
iii) Manuscript Class Magazine
Students of std. IV to VIII express their creative skills by preparing a manuscript class magazine.
iv) NCSC (National Children Science Congress) Projects
To kindle the scientific inquiring among students the NCSC encourages schools to participate in presenting projects in science. Projects were taken up by the students of Std. VI - VIII and the project reports were presented and won the appreciation of the organizers.
GENERAL EVENTS
# Winter and Summer coaching classes in Athletics, Basketball, and Handball were organized for students of Std VI – VIII during the holidays.
# Children’s day was observed as ‘Reading Day’ and in commemoration of 400th death Anniversary of Shakespeare ‘SBOA Reads’ Festival - 2016 was celebrated. Interschool Literary Meet was held on 11.11.16. Twelve schools participated in competitions conducted in English and Tamil.
# Interactive sessions on ‘Shakespeare’ and ‘Enhancing Creative Writing’ by Professor. Dr. Arjunan, Head of English Department, Mannar Thirumalai Naickar college, ‘Journalism and Creative writing’ by Miss. Parvathi, student Journalist, MKU inspired aspiring student authors.
# SBOA Tri-carnival was celebrated on 6.2.2017. Students of std. V – VII demonstrated “Martial Arts” like Kuthuvarisai, Kalari & Silambam and won applause.
# An Expo on ‘World Heritage Sites’ was organized. Impressive models on Heritage sites declared by UNESCO from across the continents were displayed.
# A model of Ancient cottage was also made with the real traditional items used by the people in villages.
# INK (Incredible Novelty in Kids) 1st issue of the in-house magazine was released during Annual Day Programme.
# Election for School Head boy & School Head girl, Sports Secretary & Joint Secretary was conducted by Computerized Polling.
# Investiture Ceremony & ECA Inauguration was conducted in a grand manner.
# Mega Talent Show: One of the greatest talents is recognizing the talent in others and giving them the forum to shine. To awaken the various talents in our young kids, a Mega Talent Hunt was organized.
# An orientation programme about the function of IIMUN (India International Model United Nations) was arranged for the students of Std. VII & VIII. Mr . Manan Parikh, B.E. Asst. Director of IIMUN, Mumbai addressed the students of Std VII & VIII on # ‘Functions of United Nations & Goal, Purpose of Model United Nations’ and he motivated the students to attend the national conference. A team of 6 students of Std. VII & VIII participated in it as delegates representing Germany, USA and India.
# Dental and Eye camp were organized with the support of Meenakshi Mission hospital, for the students of Std. I to VIII.
# Health checkup was arranged for the teachers by the Health Department of our school in collaboration with Apollo Hospital, Madurai.
# Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner. Dr. Ravichandran, Professor, Gandhigram Rural University was the resource person. He is a grandson of a freedom fighter. Students performed Fashion Parade, Western dance, Special song, Fusion Dance, Skit and Tableau and won the appreciation.
VISION – 30
SBIOA Vision 30 is drafted and 12 design teams namely the Fortune Winners, Suga, Lernen Ducere, Egalitarian Ensemble, Earth Changers, Paradise Builders, Shantha Sabha, Aurora, Sahayak Raj, Digi Technologists, Elite Athletes and Creative Potters are systematically implementing various activities to realize the sustainable development goals by UN.
STAFF EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME
The innovative staff members of our school are periodically sent for in – service programmes such as Seminars and workshops to help them improve and update their professional skills. They are also encouraged to present papers and handle model classes on their subjects at regular intervals. They involve themselves totally in all the activities of the school, thus improving the children far beyond their classrooms. The teaching community was richly benefitted by attending the Conference on ‘Breaking Barriers – TOP ‘17’, organized by the SBIOA Educational Trust.

# SHARPEN Academy, SBIOA Educational Trust, Chennai organized a seminar for Science teachers. Mrs. Shymala Ramesh, Oxford Publications enlightened the Biology teachers on “Techniques in Teaching Biology” and Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Srivatsan, Former Principal, P. S. Secondary School delivered a talk for Physical Science Teachers.
# “Introduction of Quality Circle” was given by Mrs. Vidya Thathalakshmi, AHM & QC Supervisor, Mrs. Stella Ruby, QC Coordinator and Mrs. Mubeen, QC Facilitator of SBOA Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, Madurai. They explained the Advantages, Tools & techniques involved in Case study presentations of QC. 3 QC teams have started functioning in our school.
# Mr. K. Surya Narayanan and Mrs. M. Deepalakshmi attended Scouts and Guides Basic & Advanced training camp conducted by Department of Education and Annual Scout & Guide camp at ‘CESCI’, Kadavoor.
# A counselling workshop on “Effective Team Work” was handled by Dr. Alex, CF Hospital, Oddanchatram.
# Seminar on “Vision 30” was presided by Dr. Bindu, Consultant & Administrator, SBIOA Educational Trust.
# Social awareness programme on “Water Harvesting and Water Management” was organized by EKTA & Madurai Forum Dr. Rajendra Singh, Water man of India guided the delegates.
# Mrs. P.C. Selvarani, Administrator, Dr.Indra Jayaraj, Vice-Principal, SHARPEN and Mr. Samuel Inbaraj, Trust office guided the staff members during their visit to the school.
# “Learning Circle & Teaching techniques” by Mr. Ramprasad (Alumnus), Facilitator, Teach India gave insights on framing the plan for Vision 30.
# A seminar on ‘Developing Communication Skills’ was delivered by Dr. C.V.S. Geetha, Retd. Head of the Research Department of English, Fatima College, Madurai.
# An informative workshop on ‘People Archives of Rural India’ was organized by SBIOA Educational Trust, Chennai. Dr. Sainath was the resource person.
# A seminar on ‘Ulaipil Thalaipom’ was conducted by the Department of Tamil. Dr. N. Gandhimathi, Associate Professor, Meenakshi College of Art & Science was the resource person.
# Teachers enthusiastically volunteered to take model classes for their colleagues to implement SBOA Teaching Methodology.
# A session on ABC Counselling Model was handled by the Student Counsellor for the mentors.
BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
# Eco-friendly Initiative
# Green Project “Serve to Conserve” was launched. Restoration and Adoption of water body and park at Meilanendal is initiated by the volunteers of Young Environmentalist Movement (YEM). Adoption of an organic farm at Melakarai is done by the students for I-can Project. This is an ongoing project.
# Students went on a Rally on the following theme to create awareness among the public:
# ‘Connecting People to Nature’ during World Environment day celebration.
# ‘Must-quit-o’ – Dengue awareness.
# Children were enthusiastically involved in reciting slogans by having placards, face-painting and distribution of stickers insisting on the theme to public and their neighbourhood.

With an objective of evolving healthy parenting style, Parenting tips are being sent through voice call every Friday
Worksheets and Question banks are uploaded on the NeverSkip ‘Parent App’ for reference. Parents are updated with the attendance details, daily homework, test schedule, portions, holiday assignment and the semester marks of their kid.
OUT REACH PROGRAMME:
# Meet the Community: Students interacted with Carpenters, Masons, Farmers, Potters, Doll makers, Weavers, Doctor, Street dancers, milk men, stone cutters and people who do puppet shows and prepared documentary short films.
# Adult Literacy Programme was conducted. Students of Std. VII in Adult Literacy Movement taught the Service Staff of our School to communicate basic thoughts in English.
# Students of the Charity Committee of the Pupil Leaders team visited the Panchayat Union School at Melakuilkudi and donated books and distributed biscuits.
# In connection with Senior Citizen day Students of Std. VIII and interested teachers were taken for a visit to meet the aged people at ‘Inba Illam’. They showed their love and concern by sharing their time and distributed snacks and towels to them.
SBOA VOCATIONAL STUDIES AND ACTIVITY CENTRE
SBOA Vocational Studies and Activity Centre, yet another off spring of SBIOA Educational Trust, Chennai is functioning from the last year. The courses include,
IIT Coaching Programme, Abacus, Chess, Classical Dance, Guitar, Key Board, Carrom, Yoga, Karate.
